St. David's Day/Dydd Dewi Sant

Today many schools throughout Wales will be a celebrating St. David’s Day. Dydd Dewi Sant. The National day of Wales [March 1st]

Many children will dress up in traditional Welsh costume and perform songs and poems of welsh culture, usually set by the youth organization of Wales called the Urdd. The children compete for prizes or certificates and have the chance to qualify through to the next round, with the ultimate goal of taking part in the Wales National Urdd competition held in May.
If the school doesn’t participate in the Urdd Eisteddfod there is usually some kind of celebration to mark this day.
The National flower a daffodil is very often worn, and boys may have a leek pinned to their lapel.

I feel because I live in Wales, that this is a nice way of carrying on old traditions, helping new generations keep up with the past.
